The melodious RTE Anthem was launched by Union Minister for HRD Dr. M.M. Pallam Raju, in the presence of MoS HRD, Dr. Shashi Tharoor and also the lyricist and MP Shri Javed Akhtar. The Minister reiterated the Government's commitment to the RTE Act at the launch function. The function was attended by school children and also featured performances by students of Bal Bhawan.
The anthem that begins with "tan, tan, tan, sunoghanti baji school ki, chalo school tumko pukare ..." sung by Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan stars Bollywood stars like Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif and Imran Khan and has been shot across the country from the cold climes of the northeast, deserts of Rajasthan, south and north India. Interesting part of the anthem is the way provisions of the RTE — free textbooks, free uniform, free meal and others — have been turned into a song. Shot in the classroom, playground, library and laboratory the anthem invites children including specially-abled and girls to join school.
