RVM Guidelines for Organizing Summer Camp for Low Achievers of Classes 1-5. Strengthening of ‘C’ Grade children – Organizing Summer camp for low achievers of Class–I to V in the identified schools. Proc.Rc.No.134/RVM(SSA)/C1/2014, Dated.26.04.2014 of the State Project Director, RVM (SSA), AP, Hyderabad.
  1. SPO has issued instructions to organize the Summer camp to the low achievers (children who are in grade – ‘C’) of class I-V (Not less than 50 children) in Summer holidays by tagging each Cluster Resource Person to the School Complex concerned. The Mandal Educational Officer / HM of School Complex concerned should be monitor the working of Summer camp and provide academic guidance to CRPs for utilization at the Summer Camp. Two kinds of Abhyasa Deepika- I & II for ‘C’ grade children of Classes I & II and III to VIII respectively shall be supplied by the SPO, RVM (SSA), AP, Hyderabad. 
  2. Therefore, all the Mandal Educational Officers / Deputy Inspector of Schools (Urban)/ Headmasters of School Complexes are instructed to organize Summer Camp to the low achievers (children who are in grade – ‘C’) of Class- I & II (25 children) and Classes III to V (25 children) of academic year 2013-14 in Summer holidays i.e., from 10th May’ 2014 to 10th Jun’2014 (Daily ‘2’ hours 07.30am to 9.30 am) so as to equip them for smooth entry into the designated class in the new academic year. The Summer Camp should be conducted at one Primary school or Upper Primary school with at least 50 children of classes I to V in each School Complex without fail duly following the guidelines ad instructions communicated by the State Project Director, RVM (SSA), AP, Hyderabad.

GUIDELINES FOR ORGANIZING SUMMER CAMP FOR LOW ACHIEVERS OF CLASSES I to V
PLAN OF ACTION

Objective of the Programme:
To impart the basics in languages, maths and Sciences for the low achievers (Children who are in grade –C) in summer holidays so as to equip them for smooth entry into the designated class in the new academic year.

Duration of the Programme:
  • One month – from 10th May, 2013 to 10th June, 2014.
  • Daily two hours i.e., from 07.30 A.M to 09.30 A.M
Target group:
  • Low Achievers (C-grade children of Class-I & II and Classes III to V of current academic year 2013-14) based on Summative – II conducted in Jan-2014.
  • At least 50 children (Children of classes I to V)
Venue:
One Primary school or Upper Primary school representing from each School complex in all the districts having good accommodation (Instructions were already communicated to DPOs on selection of a school for this programme).

Who will teach?
The CRP attached to the School complex will teach and the MEO will supervise the conduct of the programme.

Materials Provided:
  • Two kinds of Abhyasa Deepikas are developed for ‘C’ grade children of classes from I to VIII.
  • Abhyasa Deepika –I for ‘C’ grade children of classes I & II.
  • Abhyasa Deepika – II for ‘C’ grade children of classes III to VIII.
  • Each child will be provided with one relevant one Workbook.
  • Each identified center/school will be provided with 50 workbooks (i.e., 25 workbooks for class I & II and 25 books for classes III to VIII).
  • Limit the number of ‘C’ grade children to 50 only i.e., 25 from Classes I & II and 25 from Classes 3,4,5 or 3 to 8 (in case the number of children of classes 3, 4, 5 fall short of 25 select ‘C’ grade children of classes 6, 7 and 8 also).

Balance of books after distribution @ one copy to children as per the standard may be kept safely at the complex and same may be distributed schools in the schools after reopening of schools.

Teaching Strategy
  • Assess the children’s basic standards on the basis of a simple Oral / written test.
  • Record what the Child knows and what the child does not know in respect of the said academic standards – childwise.
  • Distribute one copy of Abhyasa Deepika – I to all children of Classes I & II and one copy of Abhyasa Deepika – II for ‘C’ grade children of Classes III, IV & V or III to VIII as per the selection made.
  • Help children of Classes I to V or I to VIII to acquire the basic standards with the help of the workbooks. 
  • Check the work done by the children in workbooks daily and make necessary corrections wherever required with the help of the children.
  • Children who are not able to do the exercises in the workbooks may be provided individual help.
  • Note the progress of each student once a week in the given format (format will be communicated shortly).p

INSTRUCTIONS TO DPOS

  1. The POs and AMOs shall give instructions to MEOs/School complex HMs/ CRPs to identify one school within the jurisdiction of school complex having adequate number of low achievers upto elementary level i.e., not more than 50 children. 
  2. If the school identified to run the summer camp doesn’t have adequate number of low achievers, in classes I to V, select ‘C’ grade children of classes VI to VIII. 
  3. Maintain a list of schools from each School complex for organizing the proposed “Summer Camp”.
  4. Maintain a list of children enrolled at the “Summer Camps”, School complex wise and forward a consolidated a copy at district level to the SPO.
  5. Attach the Summer Camp to the CRP concerned, complex-wise and consolidated district level information be forward to the SPO soon after the commencement of the programme. 
  6. Provide required quantity of materials such as pieces of chalk and other learning materials available in the school for utilization at the Summer Camp.
  7. The School complex HM/MEO concerned shall monitor the working of Summer camp and provide academic guidance to CRPs and also monitor the children’s academic progress. 
  8. Instructions shall be given to School complex HM/MEO/CRPs to organize a meeting with parents of the ‘C’ grade children enrolled especially / SMC members on running of the summer camp well in advance highlighting the importance of the summer camp and ensuring the regular attendance of the targeted children and to provide necessary assistance to children. 
  9. All Sectoral officers of DPO shall allot the mandals to monitor the summer camps. 
  10. Ensure the attendance of all Sectorals officers and MEOs at the proposed teleconference on 2nd May, 2014 from 11.00 A.M to 01.00 P.M at the identified convenient places.
