KVS Admission 2026-27: Eligibility & Age Criteria

For Class I admission, a child must be at least 6 years old as on 31st March of the year in which admission is sought. Children born on 1st April are also eligible.

KVS follows a strict priority-based system. Admissions are open to all citizens — not restricted to Central Government employees — with priority given as below.

📌 Preference Within Priority

Within each priority category, preference is given based on the number of transfers of the parent in the last 7 years. More transfers = higher preference.

Project Sector / IHL Kendriya Vidyalayas

In Project/IHL sector KVs, Priority I includes children of the sponsoring organisation's employees, faculty, post-graduate research students, Council of Wardens (COW) employees, retired employees, and directly hired contractual employees. Priorities II–VI follow a similar cascading pattern.

Reservation Policy in KVS Admissions 2026-27

The following reservations apply to all fresh admissions as per the RTE Act 2009 and Government of India norms:

Method of Admission: Class-wise Process KVS ADMISSIONS 2026-27

Class I — Online Lottery via OLA Portal

Admission to Class I follows a lottery-based (draw of lots) system in this sequence:

  1. First Lot (RTE — 10 seats): Draw from SC/ST/EWS/BPL/OBC-NCL/CwSN applicants from the neighbourhood.
  2. Second Lot (CwSN): Lottery for Children with Special Needs across all social categories.
  3. Third Lot (Priority Cat I & II): Remaining seats filled as per service priority category up to sanctioned strength.
  4. Fourth Lot (SC/ST/OBC-NCL shortfall): Reserved category shortfall is filled irrespective of sanctioned strength.
  5. Fifth Lot (Priority Cat III onwards): Remaining unreserved seats filled. Unfilled reserved seats are kept vacant.

Class II to VIII — Offline Mode (No Test)

No admission test is conducted. Admission is granted to fill vacant seats in priority order within the prescribed class strength of 40.

Class IX — Written Admission Test (Offline)

A written test of 3 hours / 100 marks is conducted covering Hindi, English, Mathematics, Social Science, and Science (20 marks each). Minimum qualifying marks: 33% in aggregate (25% for SC/ST/CwSN).

Class XI — Merit-Based (KV Students First)

Admissions across Science, Commerce, and Humanities streams are based on Class X CBSE Board results, up to a maximum strength of 50 for KV students. Non-KV students are considered only after all KV students are accommodated, within the fresh admission strength of 40.

SC/ST/OBC-NCL/CwSN students additionally receive an upgradation of 4% marks in aggregate for Class XI admission. Maximum combined concession is capped at 6% in aggregate. Only one concession (whichever gives maximum benefit) is allowed.

Fresh Admission to Class X and XII: Conditions

Fresh admissions of non-KV students to Classes X and XII are considered only when average class strength is below 40, subject to:

  • The child must be studying in a CBSE-affiliated school.
  • Class X: Minimum 55% marks in aggregate in Class IX.
  • Class XII: Minimum 55% marks in Class XI examination.
  • Subject combinations opted must be available at the concerned KV.
  • Only Priority Category I & II (Civil/Defence KVs) or I–III (Project/IHL KVs) are eligible.

Submit Before the Last Date
Ensure submission before the portal closes on 02 April 2026. If multiple applications are submitted for the same child at the same KV, only the last application will be considered.
